The Nigeria Police Force has issued a fresh invitation to Segun Olawoye, publisher of ObjecTV Media, barely weeks after he was questioned by officers over the outlet’s reporting on public projects. Olawoye disclosed the latest summons in a post on Facebook, saying the new call came from the Lagos State Police Command at Panti, Yaba. He did not say when the invitation was issued.

“We have a new call from the Nigeria Police Force, this time at Panti, Yaba,” he wrote. He said his team had asked for time until next week to honour the appointment, and that they do not yet know what the invitation is meant to address. “We’ll bring you the updates as we prepare to meet them, hopefully next week,” he added, using the hashtag #BeObjecTV.

The new summons follows an earlier invitation from the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) in Lagos in September 2026. That invitation came after ObjecTV Media published investigative reports on what it described as the shoddy execution and questionable handling of public contracts and infrastructure projects, according to a report by Sahara Reporters.

Olawoye honoured the earlier invitation after publicly urging Nigerians and civil society groups to stand in solidarity with him. After his questioning, the legal advocacy group Foundation for Joint Initiative and Development (FDJ Africa) reportedly intervened to secure his release from PSFU custody.

The repeated summons will likely draw concern from press freedom advocates, who have often criticised the use of police invitations and detentions against journalists over their reporting.
