Canada deported 643 Nigerian nationals between January 2025 and June 2026, making Nigeria the only African country to rank among the top 10 nationalities removed from the country during the period, according to official immigration removal figures released by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
Data published by the CBSA showed that 438 Nigerians were removed from Canada in 2025, making Nigeria the 10th-highest nationality for immigration removals that year. In the first six months of 2026, an additional 205 Nigerians were removed, elevating Nigeria to ninth place among the top nationalities removed between January and June.
The figures were contained in the agency’s latest Immigration Removal Statistics, which provide annual removal data from 2020 to 2025 and monthly statistics for 2026 up to June 30. According to the CBSA, immigration removals are carried out against foreign nationals who no longer have the legal right to remain in Canada. The data also indicate that removals involving Nigerian nationals have fluctuated over the past six years.
In 2020, Canada removed 302 Nigerians, followed by 242 in 2021 and 200 in 2022. Nigeria did not appear among the top 10 nationalities removed in 2023, but returned to the list in 2025 with 438 removals after dropping out in 2024. By the halfway mark of 2026, another 205 Nigerians had already been removed.
Nigeria was the only African country among the top 10 nationalities removed from Canada in both 2025 and the first half of 2026.According to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Nigeria ranked 10th in 2025 with 438 removals and 9th between January and June 2026 with 205 removals.
No other African country appeared in the CBSA’s top 10 list of citizenships removed during either period. The remaining countries in the top 10 were Mexico, India, Haiti, Colombia, Romania, the United States, Venezuela, Pakistan, China (2025) and Bangladesh and Chile (2026).
