A hospital owned by former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike in Imo State has reportedly come under attack, barely a week after he accused some state governors of embezzling public funds.

Emenike disclosed the incident in a statement on his Instagram page on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, saying the reported events at Emenike Hospital had left him deeply pained. He stressed that a facility built to provide care should never become a place where patients fear for their safety and staff feel threatened.

Recalling his journey, the former international said that after representing Nigeria, playing professional football in Europe and winning the Africa Cup of Nations, he chose to return home and invest in his community. “I invested in my community and built a hospital,” he wrote, describing it as a gesture of faith in his people. He called for protection and support for the hospital community and urged the authorities to guarantee the safety of patients and staff. “Imo State deserves investment. Its people deserve safety,” he added. Emenike tagged Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, the Nigeria Police Force and the Imo State Police Command in the post.

According to reports, personnel of the Imo State waste management agency and police officers visited the hospital on Wednesday, harassed staff and patients, and arbitrarily detained the hospital administrator and cashier.

The incident follows Emenike’s October 14 Instagram post, in which he criticised some state governors over alleged mismanagement of public funds, describing Nigeria as an “embezzlement ground.” He accused some governors of having no plans for the future of their states, and also faulted security personnel for allegedly backing political office holders despite their own economic hardship. He did not name any governor in the post. Neither the Imo State Government nor the police had publicly responded to the allegations at the time of this report.
