The wife of a missing Globacom roll-out manager has renewed calls on the telecommunications company, the Nigeria Police Force, and other authorities to disclose the whereabouts of her husband, who she says has been missing since May 6, 2025.
Funmi Adetona, 46, told journalists that her husband, Olaoluwa Adetona, 49, was allegedly abducted in Imo State while on an official site-acquisition assignment with two expatriate colleagues who had travelled from Lagos. She said she grew suspicious that evening when an unidentified person answered his phone and later turned abusive when she asked to speak with him. She was subsequently told he had been kidnapped.
According to Mrs Adetona, the two expatriates were released, but her husband was not. She alleged that persons holding his phone demanded ₦1 million before she could speak with him, and that although ransom payments were reportedly made, the promised release never happened. She said Globacom officials, including the company’s Head of Roll-out and Chief Security Officer, gave the family shifting accounts over several months without a definitive explanation. She said the toll on the family has been severe: her husband’s father died in April 2026, which she attributed to distress over the disappearance, while her mother-in-law has since become seriously ill. Their three children, she said, continue to ask when their father is coming home.
Mrs Adetona disputed suggestions that her husband may have been shot, noting that his recovered vehicle bore no bloodstains. “There is no proof that he is dead,” she said, adding that Globacom has continued to pay his salary into her account. The family has engaged a lawyer who has written several letters to the company seeking answers.
Separately, the Gani Fawehinmi Memorial Organisation (GAFAMORG) and the National Coalition Against Mass Abductions, Atrocities, Killings, Extra-Judicial Killings, Mob Actions and Impunity (NCAMKI) have written an open letter, dated September 9, 2026, to the Inspector-General of Police demanding urgent intervention. The groups set out ten demands, including a full review of the investigation, forensic examination of the recovered vehicle, scrutiny of the ransom claims, investigation of the expatriates’ release, and the assignment of a liaison officer to keep the family updated.
The organisations said the case will be considered for inclusion in their Citizen Justice Tracker, stressing that they are not accusing any party but are demanding accountability and a credible determination of Adetona’s fate.
