A Delta State High Court has ordered five dismissed police officers, including former Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman, to be remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre over the extrajudicial killing of suspect Oghenemine Ogidi in Effurun on April 26.

The officers were arraigned on Monday, June 1, before Justice Marshal Onome Umukoro at High Court 5 in Asaba, in a case filed under Suit No. THC/ASB/CR/M/66C/2026. The court adjourned proceedings until June 15 for formal arraignment, following a request for legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. Journalists were barred from the courtroom during the hearing. The defendants are ASP Usman Nuhu, 42; ASP Onoloko Dauroupamo, 47; ASP Okoh Kelechi, 46; Inspector Goodluck Kingsley, 42; and Inspector Omonigho Ahweyevu, 41.

The case stems from the killing of Ogidi, a 28-year-old musician and delivery worker popularly known as OG Millan, whose death was captured on video and sparked nationwide outrage. In the footage, Ogidi — handcuffed and in tears — is seen begging for his life and offering to lead officers to the parcel’s sender in Sapele before Usman shot him dead.

Police had said Ogidi was apprehended after intelligence from members of the public pointed to him dispatching a parcel containing a loaded Beretta pistol with four rounds of ammunition. However, accounts from witnesses and the video itself raised serious questions about whether the shooting was justified.

The Inspector General of Police approved the dismissal and prosecution of Usman and the other officers in April. Reports suggest Ogidi may have been killed because of what he knew about Usman’s past operations in the Jesse and Sapele axis, though this has not been confirmed officially.

Efforts to obtain comment from the Delta State Police Command were unsuccessful. The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, did not respond to calls or a text message sent to him before this report was filed.
