The Nigeria Police Command has said that it never arrested nor detained three police officers who were accused of serious human rights abuses including extrajudicial executions and organ trafficking.
The police have earlier announced that it is investigating three senior police officers attached to the Anambra state and Zone 13 commands. Mr. Patrick Agbazue, a chief superintendent of police, serves as officer-in-charge of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Unit of the police in Anambra State, while Ms Nwode, a superintendent of police, is the spokesperson in Zone 13 Headquarters of the police. Mr. Akama, an inspector, is attached to the RRS unit of the police in Anambra State.
NOHR reported how a Nigerian blog published a report accusing the officers of engaging in the illegal arrest, torture, extortion, and extra-judicial executions of their victims.
In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on his official Twitter handle, the police announced that it has commenced a full-scale investigation into the allegations against the officers.
“Furthermore, it is imperative to clear the air that the officers fingered in the trending allegation were never arrested or detained. Rather, they were summoned to the Force Headquarters for interrogation in order to have a clue on the trending allegations. Due to the denial of the allegations raised by a blogger, the Inspector-General of Police then set in motion the process for diligent investigations.” Adejobi said
“It is, however, crucial to state that this process/development will not in any way truncate the current conscientious investigation into the allegations as many aggrieved persons have reached out to the panel for more deliberations and information sharing” He further said
