Two police officers have been arrested and taken into custody following a fatal shooting in the Alagbado area of Lagos State that claimed the lives of two people.

The officers were engaged in a pursuit of suspected criminals when they discharged their weapons, killing both individuals during the operation. The incident sparked concern among residents, prompting authorities to act quickly in a bid to ease tensions and restore calm to the community.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrests in a post on her X account, saying the officers were apprehended on Friday. “The officers implicated in the unfortunate incident had been taken into custody pending further investigation,” she stated. Adebisi added that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, has directed that a thorough and comprehensive investigation be conducted to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.

In the meantime, additional security personnel have been deployed to the area to prevent any breakdown of law and order. The spokesperson said normalcy has since been restored to the community. She reassured Lagos residents that justice would be served and that the findings of the investigation would be made public in due course.
