The US Embassy in Nigeria warned American citizens on Friday about an elevated threat to major hotels in Nigeria’s major cities, including Abuja and Lagos.

In a security advisory, the embassy said it is aware of credible information about the threat, and that Nigerian security services are working diligently to counter it. The embassy advised US citizens in Nigeria to consider this information when arranging lodging or visiting major hotels, and to remain vigilant and keep a low profile.

There are credible fears that the ongoing Israeli- Hamas war  and the rising anger in the Middle East  and the Muslim world may lead to the targeting of Americans around the world by Islamic militants sympathetic to the Palestinians
