The convoy of the Zamfara PDP Governorship candidate’s wife was attacked in Gusau

Two policemen have been shot and several other civilians injured after suspected members of the Zamfara State Anti-thuggery Operatives attacked the convoy of the wife of Zamfara PDP Governorship candidate, Hajiya Hurriyah Lawal. The incident happened in the early hours of Friday, within the Gusau metropolis, when Mrs Lawal was returning to Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

Media aide to Mr. Dauda Lawal, Imran Ahnad told Channels Television that two of her security personnel and other civilians were injured and are currently receiving treatment at a health facility in the state capital.“The convoy of the wife of the Zamfara PDP Governorship candidate was just attacked now in Gusau by heavily armed militia, Anti-thuggery Operatives, with two policemen shot and civilians injured,” the aide disclosed.

Confirming the incident, the Commander of Zamfara State Anti-thuggery Agency, Bello Bakyasuwa told Channels Television via telephone that the operatives of the agency were on patrol when they were attacked by some suspected political thugs around 12am this morning. “Yes, our operatives were attacked early hour of today, they were on patrol when some thugs with a convoy started shouting “karya ne” (it is a lie) and started shooting at the Anti-thuggery Operatives, we don’t have a choice but to retaliate,” Bakyasuwa said two of the thugs have been arrested and are currently in the custody of the agency. When asked about the injured policemen, he said “I am not aware of that.”

The Anti-Thuggery is agency in Zamfara State established by Governor Bello Matawalle to combat political thuggery, drug abuse, and other related criminal offenses in the state. An official statement by the Zamfara Police Command is expected soon, even as the authorities say an investigation into the matter is underway.
