Aminu Adamu, the student of the Federal University, Dutse, who was arrested after criticizing First Lady Aisha Buhari, on Twitter, has been remanded at Suleja Prison in Niger State after he was secretary arraigned in an Abuja court on Tuesday.
It was not clear what he was charged with but sources said he pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against him. His Lawyer, CK Agu told the BBC Hausa services that the court denied his application for bail on health grounds and the fact that his client will sit for the exam on 5, December.
Aminu, who hails from Azare in Bauchi state, is a final-year student of the Department of Environmental Management at Federal University, Dutse. He was arrested on 8 November 2022 at midnight by security operatives over a tweet deemed to be demeaning to the person of the first lady of Nigeria Aisha Buhari.
His arrest sparked outrage on social media, as many Nigerians and human rights groups demand for his immediate release Aminu’s parents have tendered an apology to the First Lady and demanded his release.
