A Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State capital,  this afternoon granted bail to two journalists Dare Akogun and  Akogun Abdulrasheed.

The  two were remanded  at Oke-Kura Correctional Centre by Magistrate Bio Salihu on 14 October 2022  over allegations of defamation.

Dare Akogun and  Akogun Abdulrasheed were charged with defamation by the Kwara State police command after a failed effort to coerce them to retract an allegation of corruption they reportedly made against an official of the Kwara state government.

The Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP)  had accused the Kwara state police command of bias in the case, saying the Commissioner of Police, CP Paul Odama tried to force the journalists to write an apology in response to the petition written by Chief Press Secretary to Kwara State, Rafiu Ajakaye accusing the two journalists of defaming him.
