The Department of Security Service (DSS) on Thursday stopped the presidential candidate of the African Action Alliance (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, from meeting the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, in DSS detention.
Mr. Kanu has been in the DSS detention facility after his arrest and rendition to Nigeria from Kenya on 27th June 2021. He is currently facing trial for terrorism and treasonable felony before the Federal High Court, Abuja.
NOHR learned that there is a subsisting court order that permits any three persons of his choice to see him daily.
Mr. Kanu’s solicitors, Ugochinyere Chambers, had forwarded Mr. Sowore’s name among the three persons slated to meet with Nnamdi Kanu at the DSS facility on Thursday. Mr. Sowore however told NOHR that he was denied access to the IPOB leader after waiting for over three hours.
“ Yes, the Nigerian secret police -SSS- denied me access to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB apparently to prevent me from witnessing his deteriorating health condition,” he told NOHR
The DSS has not made any comment about the incident.
