Abuja, Nigeria – The University of Abuja community is grieving the loss of Inaolaji Ayomide Serifdeen, a 21-year-old first-class graduate of Statistics, who died in a motorcycle accident near the university campus on Sunday Friday, October 20th, just two days after his signing out ceremony ( graduation).
The incident occurred when Ayomide, riding as a passenger on a commercial motorcycle (okada), was involved in a collision with a white Toyota vehicle. The motorcycle operator and Dayo, a five-hundred-level student of Agriculture, were killed instantly.

Eyewitnesses reported that two of Ayomide’s friends, Dennis and Christian, arrived at the scene shortly after the accident to find police officers already present. While Ayomide was still showing signs of life, attempts to get immediate medical attention were reportedly delayed when police officers prioritized taking the car driver (a couple) and their vehicle to their station rather than allowing the use of the vehicle for emergency transport.
Ayomide’s friends were forced to secure a commercial taxi to transport him to Gwagwalada Teaching Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A talented scholar, Ayomide had just graduated with a remarkable 4.7 GPA in Statistics. Dr. Olarenwaju, Head of the Statistics Department at UniAbuja, described him as “an exceptionally brilliant student” during the funeral service held on Tuesday at the Gwagwalada cemetery. The service was attended by students, faculty members, and friends.
Ayomide, an only son, is survived by his widowed mother and a sister. His death has left a profound impact on the university community, where he was affectionately known as “AY.”
